How do you stay in touch with your sphere without being pushy? It’s a common struggle, but staying in touch with your network doesn’t have to feel uncomfortable. In fact, with the right approach, you can maintain strong relationships without sounding salesy.
Over the years, I’ve developed strategies to stay top of mind with my contacts while offering genuine value. Let me share them with you!
1. Don’t be salesy – offer value instead. Staying connected is all about offering something useful, not pushing a sale. Share things like recent home sales, market trends, or new developments happening in the neighborhood.
People love getting that kind of information because it keeps them in the loop. When you focus on providing value, you stay top of mind without feeling forced. Whether it’s a call or a quick message, it’s all about being helpful and keeping it casual!
2. Celebrate their wins, not yours. Here’s a simple but powerful tip: celebrate other people’s achievements rather than bragging about your own. Focusing on the good things in their lives—like graduating or getting a new job—shows you care about them as people, not just clients. You should also pay attention to social media and listen to what’s going on. Little gestures like sending flowers for a milestone can also strengthen your connection.
3. Extend invitations to activities. People love to feel included, so why not extend an invitation? Inviting someone to casual events, like a community gathering or farmers market, is a great way to stay connected. And even if they can’t make it, the fact that you thought to invite them matters. But this doesn’t mean you always have to organize the event. You can also invite them to things you’re simply attending, like a local festival or charity run.
4. Use social media to engage, not just post. Take the time to like, comment, and respond to what others are sharing. Doing these shows that you’re genuinely interested in them beyond business. Moreover, social media is a great tool for fostering real-life connections by getting a glimpse of their world, finding common ground, and starting conversations.
One trick I love is responding to stories. These short, temporary posts disappear within 24 hours, so it’s a great way to keep up with their day-to-day life without being overbearing.
5. Use an effective icebreaker. One of my absolute favorite icebreakers to use with my sphere is a simple question: “What are your real estate-related plans this year?” I didn’t come up with this question, but I think it’s the perfect way to start a conversation without feeling pushy.
Whether at a dinner party, in the store, or on a call, it works! People often share their plans, like remodeling or buying a second home, and it helps me offer assistance. It’s led to plenty of referrals and new opportunities.
At the end of the day, staying in touch with your sphere shouldn’t always be about business or making a sale. It’s about being a resource, showing you care, and building relationships that are based on mutual respect. Try these tips and see how easy it is to stay connected without the sales pressure.
